Located in the heart of Fondren, Saltine Restaurant has become one of Jackson’s go-to gathering places, thanks in no small part to its daily happy hour. Fresh Gulf oysters, craft cocktails, seafood that feels both elevated and approachable, and a lively patio make it the kind of place where one drink somehow turns into dinner with friends. Their oyster bar is the star of the show, but don’t sleep on the shrimp and grits, seafood pasta, or the famous skillet cornbread.
Cedes Place
Some restaurants feed your stomach.
Others feed your soul.
That’s exactly why the BlogJXN family kept mentioning Cedes’ Place Eats & Sweets. This is comfort food in its purest form. Think crispy fried chicken, tender oxtails, creamy mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, and desserts that taste like someone made them just for you. One reviewer summed it up perfectly by saying it feels like “your grandma’s spirit” is in the kitchen. That’s about as high a compliment as Southern cooking can receive.
Names & Faces

In Jackson, plenty of people say it’s Names and Faces Lounge.
Their wings have developed a loyal following, but they’re hardly the only reason people keep coming back. Fried catfish, shrimp, cold drinks, music, and a downtown atmosphere that always feels energetic have turned this lounge into a favorite place to unwind after work or spend an evening with friends.

At Sugar’s Place, people gather over chicken and waffles, fluffy pancakes, buttery grits, biscuits, catfish, eggs, and coffee that somehow fuels both conversation and the rest of the day. It’s the kind of restaurant that reminds us breakfast isn’t something to rush through. It’s something to enjoy together.
Tuk Tuk Boom
Choosing where to eat with a group can be surprisingly difficult.
One friend wants sushi. Another wants curry. Someone else is craving noodles.
Thankfully, Tuk Tuk Boom solved that problem.
Their menu blends Thai favorites with fresh sushi, poke bowls, curries, and noodle dishes, making everyone at the table happy. Add colorful cocktails and a bright, modern atmosphere, and it’s easy to see why so many locals have made it a regular stop.
Zundo
There are ramen restaurants…
…and then there’s Zundo Ramen Bar.

Jefferson’s Grill is a perfect example. Known locally as one of Jackson’s legendary “gas station barbecue” spots, Jefferson’s serves smoky ribs, pulled pork, and classic barbecue that lets the meat do the talking. Sometimes simple really is best.

Long before downtown Jackson experienced its current revival, Martin’s was already bringing people together.

Part authentic Chinese restaurant and part Asian grocery store, it’s become a favorite for adventurous eaters and longtime regulars alike. Roast duck, handmade dumplings, spicy chicken, Taiwanese specialties, and shelves stocked with ingredients from across Asia make every visit feel like more than just dinner.
La Presa
Highland Village has plenty of great places to eat, but La Presa Taquería has quickly earned its place among them.
Fresh tortillas, flavorful tacos, enchiladas, house-made salsas, and one of the area’s strongest margarita menus have made it a favorite for date nights, family dinners, and celebrations. It feels polished without ever losing its welcoming personality.
Thai Time Thai & Sushi Restaurant
Some restaurants become favorites because they’re exciting.
Others become favorites because they’re consistently excellent.
Thai Time falls into that second category. Whether you’re ordering Pad Thai, rich curries, sushi, pineapple fried rice, or a comforting bowl of soup, locals know they’re going to leave happy. That’s a reputation every restaurant hopes to earn.

The Teahouse
Every city needs a place where you can slow down for an hour.
For many people around Jackson, that’s The Teahouse: Bubble Tea, Coffee, Smoothies.
Ask around, and you’ll hear the same thing over and over: it’s one of the best places in the metro for boba. Milk teas, fruit teas, matcha, smoothies, and their famous bubble waffles keep customers coming back, but people are just as quick to compliment the owners. Friendly service, a cozy atmosphere, and genuinely welcoming people have made The Teahouse feel like a neighborhood hangout as much as a drink shop.
Here’s to the Places That Feed Jackson
One of our favorite things about this list isn’t what people ordered.
It’s that every recommendation came with a memory.
A first date. A birthday dinner. Weekly lunch with coworkers. After-school boba runs. Friday happy hours. Sunday soul food. A bowl of ramen on a rainy day.
Restaurants do so much more than serve meals. They create traditions, employ our neighbors, support local events, and give us places to celebrate life’s biggest moments and its ordinary Tuesdays.
