A Day at the Mississippi State Fair: Fried Food, Ferris Wheels & Flying Pigs

What do deep-fried deviled eggs, neon rides, and sky-high views of downtown Jackson have in common? They’re all part of a day at the Mississippi State Fair. And yes, we went all in.

Hereโ€™s what we saw, what we ate, and how much it probably cost us

First Stop: Lemonade & Legends

Cloudy skies ushering in the start of Fall? Check. Flags flapping overhead? Double check. That unmistakable fair smell of sausage grease, powdered sugar, and generational joy? Youโ€™re in the right place.

The chairlift glides overhead like a pastel parade, and below, vendors sling everything from chicken-on-a-stick to deep-fried zucchini. (Itโ€™s healthy if it started as a vegetable, right?)

Midway Mayhem: Games & Giant Plush Regrets

You havenโ€™t lived until youโ€™ve dropped $15 trying to win a stuffed Minion the size of your car. (Worth it? Unclear.)

We hit the game stripโ€”Water Gun Fun, ring toss, that one impossible basketball shot. The vibe? Pure joy, mixed with the sound of victory bells and parents negotiating exit strategies.

Pigs. Racing. Enough Said.

We didnโ€™t plan to love the Swine Racers, but here we are. They announce it like itโ€™s NASCAR. The pigs wear numbers. The crowd goes feral. Itโ€™s peak fair magic.

Bonus: itโ€™s near the Ag Museum, so you can pretend itโ€™s educational.

Ferris Wheel = Sky-High JXN Vibes

At the top of the wheel, you get the best view in the cityโ€”downtown skyline, fairgrounds in full chaos, and a perfect breeze. Snap that skyline shot while your lemonadeโ€™s still full.

What We Ate

  • Funnel cake โ€“ $10, includes powdered sugar and zero regrets
  • Fried veggies โ€“ MVP snack, surprisingly elite
  • Frozen lemonade โ€“ a $7 brain freeze youโ€™ll remember forever
  • Corn dog โ€“ legally required at this point

Letโ€™s be honest: fair math doesnโ€™t make sense. But when else can you trade $8 for a fried Oreo and call it โ€œworth itโ€?

TL;DR: Should You Go?

Yeah. Thereโ€™s something for everyone, from vintage cars to magical merry go rounds. Itโ€™s loud, nostalgic, a little overpriced, but its absolutely Jackson. Bring your appetite, your camera, and your “I swear this is my last ride” voice.
