Ever leave yourself a voicemail just to remember to call your mom back?
Same. Turns out, that’s art now, and it’s on display at the Mississippi Museum of Art.
Call Home, the 2025 Mississippi Invitational, just landed in downtown Jackson. It’s got 12 Mississippi artists reimagining what “home” really means, from the nostalgic to the not-so-cozy. Think ceramic chairs, garden fantasies, ancestral portals, and one very chatty answering machine.
Opening day highlights:
- 2 PM: Curated tour with TK Smith (aka your new favorite art explainer)
- 3:30 PM: Artist talk – come ask why that one piece smells like your grandma’s house
Admission is $15 max, but locals know: it’s free for members, kids under 5, active-duty military, and during select community days. Bonus: the museum’s AC is strong enough to make you feel like you’re back in your meemaw’s den.
Why go?
Because Mississippi’s got stories. And this is where they’re told, on canvas, in clay, through family photos and found objects.
